The Artist and the Ocean - It"s Great Inspiration
The unique churning, swirling gush of each wave, the ebb and flow of each tide, the perfect freedom it represents.
The ocean can be a great inspiration for a painter.
Brush strokes are carried out with the wildness and ferocity of a powerful wave yet carry the sensitivity, passion, and gentleness of a morning mist.
The ocean has long been a symbol of the emotions, of flow.
Because of its fluidity, storms can rage through the ocean to any degree without harming it.
It always settles right back down into placidity and calm peacefulness.
And while a busy city like Vancouver rises up on its coast, with traffic, population, and culture growing and competing for territory, nothing can be built on the ocean, so it lies open, a great free space too powerful to control.
The Ocean has been described in art and literature in every culture.
The ocean is a place for inspiration and enquiry.
When you go to the beach and quietly sit and gaze out at the ocean you are humbled.
You realize that there are greater elements in the world, than just you're own life.
Beautiful items can be found at the beach which can be used in art projects.
Some of these objects include beach glass; each piece that you find has a story to tell.
Seashells, rocks and stones, small bits of drift wood and dried sea kelp, are all wonderful items which can be incorporated into a painting, collage or sculpture.
With an expression of passion and skill, simple things could be turned into a beautiful object, that can be remembered and sometimes, even inspire generations for years to come.
