It has been a fact that smoking is the largest cause of preventable death in the world.
Many people die prematurely from smoking-related diseases each day.
Some of the smoking related diseases are cancer, heart disease, stroke and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or also know as Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (COLD), and these are every nations' top killers.
And all these diseases has been proven conclusively by medical experts that smoking is the major cause.
The social cost of smoking is great and estimated to be in the billions of taxpayers' dollars each year.
Besides the reality that the diseases may catch up upon you, there are the common ailments that smokers do suffer everyday.
Some examples of the common ailments that smokers suffer from include:
  • wheezing and breathing nosily
  • always catch common cold
  • shortness of breath
  • persistent cough
  • irritated throat
  • dry skin
  • irritated eyes
  • always have mucus
  • some loss of taste
  • some loss of smell
  • yellowing of the fingernails
And to add further to their suffering, there are the common 'nagging' or 'complaints' that they do suffer from time to time.
These are often 'throw' at them by loved ones, their children, non-smoking friends...
and these may include:
  • your breadth is smelly
  • your clothing is smelly
  • daddy is smelly, i don't want to play with him
  • you are putting me at risk of inhaling second-hand smoke
  • you are spending money on something that don't bring any benefits
  • These nagging or complaints do add to the smokers frustrations.
But the sad thing is - all smokers harbor the secret hope that they will be spared the disease and death that follows nicotine addiction.
They tell themselves we'll quit in time and somehow dodge the bullet that smoking is.
And with four million people dying every year due to tobacco use around the world, the odds are not in their favor.
Put another way, a smoking-related death occurs somewhere in the world every eight seconds, 365 days a year.
Quitting smoking is not impossible.

  1. Realize that your smoking habit is part of your learned behavior AND this behavior can be broken.
    Addiction is a slow and gradual process - they may have been started out as an experiment, and with gradual practice, grew into a habit.
    Understand what it is that makes you want to smoke? When you most likely will want smoke? An old habit can be 'replaced' with a new habit, by learning all these pointers, they will help you understanding your weak points and to practice the new habit consistently during during these points will gradually break the smoking habit.
  2. You have to know and understand the harmful effects that smoking can cause to you, your body and the people around you.
    It is time you forego the self-denial act.
    snap back to reality.
    Only by knowing the truth and the impact of the harm not only to you but also to your loved ones, will you be able to develop the intent to act.
  3. Find out and learn all about the ways and alternatives that can help you quit smoking - whether it is cold turkey, with the help of nicontine patches, etc...
    find out which action plan is suitable to you and your lifestyle.
  4. Take action! Many people fail not because of the programs or aids that are not effective - they fail because they do not take action, take enough action! It takes a consistent practice to break a old habit.
    So take action.
  5. To win your quit smoking race, the last simple step is to have the self-discipline to follow up with consistent actions with whatever quit smoking plans you have chosen to adopt.
    Only then, will you find success - by making small changes and winning small victories over your smoking habit.
