How to Transfer an SSI From California to Florida
- 1). Find your most recent SSI mailing. This can be a letter or a payment stub.
- 2). Examine the mailing for your current listed address in California. Circle it for reference. Keep a paper with your new address in Florida handy.
- 3). Call the Social Security Administration's address change hotline at 1-800-772-1213. There also is a number for the hearing and speech impaired: 1-800-325-0778.
- 4). Tell the operator you are moving cross-country. Be sure to tell him about any living arrangement changes, such as new roommates, you may have in Florida as it may affect your benefits.
- 1). Repeat Steps 1 and 2 from section one.
- 2). Find your local Social Security office by using the administration's office locator or look in the government pages of your phone book. In California, the regional headquarters is in San Francisco, and the regional headquarters for Florida and seven other Southeast states is in Atlanta. However, there are plenty of satellite offices that may be closer.
- 3). Explain to a representative that you're moving cross-country. Give him your Florida address and explain any changes to living arrangements, such as new roommates.
