How to Make a Glenda the Good Witch Costume

    • 1). Purchase a formal dress from a thrift store or consignment shop to use as the base of your Glinda the good witch costume. Look for a pink dress with a full, floor-length skirt.

    • 2). Lay the dress flat and decorate it with gold and silver glitter fabric paint to create the sparkly designs seen on Glinda's dress. Refer to a picture of Glinda as you work, or watch "The Wizard of Oz" to get a good look at her costume.

    • 3). Hot glue an artificial butterfly to a length of gold ribbon long enough to tie around your neck to create Glinda's butterfly choker. These butterflies are found in craft stores, and you can paint the butterfly with gold spray paint, if necessary. Wait for the paint to dry before gluing the butterfly to the ribbon.

    • 4). Paint a 1/4-inch diameter wooden dowel that measures 18 inches long with black craft paint.

    • 5). Sculpt air-dry clay into a 1/2-inch-thick star shape that measures approximately 4 inches wide.

    • 6). Press the wooden dowel into the bottom of the clay star to form Glinda's wand. Insert the dowel at least 1 inch into the star to prevent it from slipping off. Wait for the clay to dry before proceeding to the next step.

    • 7). Wrap a 3-inch-wide piece of masking tape around the wand, approximately 4 inches below the clay star. Spray paint the clay star and the top of the wand silver. Remove the tape when the paint has dried.

    • 8). Hot glue sequins or rhinestones to the clay star to add sparkle to your wand.

    • 9). Measure the diameter of your head with a tape measure and add 2 inches to this number. For example, if your head measurement is 20 inches, your final measurement is 22 inches.

Cut a rectangle from a piece of flexible poster board measuring 12 inches tall and as wide as the final measurement from the previous step.

    • 11

Draw a design along one of the longer sides of the rectangle to create the appearance of the top of Glinda's tiara. Cut along this line with scissors when you are satisfied with your design.

    • 12

Spray paint the poster board with silver spray paint. Wait for the paint to dry and then spray paint the other side of the poster board.

    • 13

Shape the dry painted poster board into a tube and fit it on your head. Tape the tiara together with a silver-colored, cloth-backed adhesive tape.

Glue rhinestones or sequins to the tiara with hot glue until you are satisfied with its appearance.
