    • 1). Select a location in your garden or landscape that receives full sunlight to plant the society garlic. These plants are able to grow in part shade, but the flowers will not be as dramatic.

    • 2). Prepare the soil by adding compost to increase the nutrients these plants need to flourish. The garden soil should be light, containing porous sand, which helps with drainage.

    • 3). Create a small mound in the soil so the plants are slightly elevated in the garden. This helps with soil drainage.

    • 4). Place bulbs beneath a thin layer of garden soil. Space them 6 to 12 inches apart.

    • 5). Water the soil until well moistened. Water the plants regularly during the growing season, as they need moist soil during this time. Allow the soil to remain dry during the winter dormant season.
