How to Use Softened Water for Watering Plants

    • 1). Water the lawn and plants only before a rain. The rain helps send the salt deep into the soil, away from your plants' roots. The water you provide helps hydrate your lawn and plants more thoroughly, especially if only a light rain is expected.

    • 2). Plant all houseplants in containers with drainage holes. This will help give the plants the drainage they to need to survive the softened water.

    • 3). Water houseplants with lukewarm water, approximately 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Water the plants with plenty of water, so much of it drains out the drainage holes. This technique helps flush out all the old salts from the previous waterings. Even though new salts are added at this watering, a salt buildup is not occurring.
