When Life Gets Hard
When the going gets tough Dad always said.
I don't always understand how life works. You read the paper and listen to the news; you talk with friends and even acquaintances and quickly learn that there is a lot of pain in life. The truth is at most any time we all could use a good sympathy gift. A listening ear, a coffee brought from a good friend, even an unexpected smile can make life seem better. It is hard to know how to handle hard times. It is hard to know how to offer a sympathy gift to someone you don't know but their situation tugs at your heart knowing they are having a hard time. It is the parent of the lost child or the lonely elderly who sit all alone each day. I just can't let my mind go to their situations because I want to do something to reach out and care about them and offer a sympathy gift that will make all the difference.
My dad always says when the going gets tough the tough get going. I guess that is what I need to do. To know that even in all the pain and sadness there really is some good. Those trials can break or make a person. That without sadness we wouldn't understand or know true joy and happy days. As hard as it is and as often as it breaks my heart to know and sometimes taste the hard parts of life I need to accept it and embrace it with diligence and fervor. I need to remember that faith has a place because it is real.
My faith doesn't make it all okay but it reminds me that there is purpose to all things. That it will and can and does work out throughout time. That in God's time everything can become beautiful. So in the mean time, I need to be the tool and person that seeks to bless others. To offer a sympathy gift for no reason at all and at times to offer a sympathy gift through prayer or a gift basket or a sacrifice of time to lighten the load of others.
I don't understand how life works. But I know there is goodness, love and joy and I pray I can be part of healing and not let all the bad and hard keep me from living my own life to the very fullest and come along side and help others do the same.
