Bio-oil Copy: Firming Body Oil By Nivea

This came not too long ago for testing and it quickly piqued my attention. I am pretty lax with body moisturisation at the very best of times but if I am going to push myself to hydrate my hide, an oil will be the very best solution to get me to do it. A dry oil's better, clearly as it's non-greasy and absorbs quicker, and a fast scan of the packaging and blurb for Nivea's new Firming Body Oil with Q10 Plus, 9.99 for 200ml, got me even more curious.

The Reason? Because I think Nivea is jockeying itself right up onto the shelf beside Bio Oil, and I think they need to rush right in front of it too. You know, it could just do it as well. It is significant to remember that this is simply not a pure botanical oil if that's what you are looking for : essentially, both products contain mineral oil as their principal ingredient and then smaller amounts of botanicals and actives.

What they are claiming is a skin firming effect in two weeks. It only means you can really use it in pregnancy in your lump, but they are not guaranteeing anything. Nivea's not making a scar or stretch mark claim with Firming Body Oil, although it has the words 'Recommended to massage stretch marks' on the packaging -- which is essentially meaningless. Nivea's extra ingredients include Q10 (already used in its facial moisturisers) and avocado oil, that is a nicely moisturising ingredient.

It's a less powerful, cheaper type of the retinol fixing we hear a lot of in skin care, plus it comes a bit down the ingredients list; but as a consequence Bio Oil has a proven track record with scars and stretch marks and has lots of studies to back up its claims. For instance, Bio Oil boasts retinyl palmitate, a vitamin A derivative, which is one of the only real anti-agers any dermatologist or skin scientist will swear actually works.

So, what am I getting at here? Then that one is just as good; then I had say stay with it if you are using Bio Oil specially for scar reduction in case you are using Bio Oil just as a body moisturiser. But for a daily dry oil body moisturiser that does the trick, Nivea is the cheaper alternative -- and you also get more in the bottle.

The aroma is nice - - it is a bit artificial but grand - - plus crucially the all-important Tights Test is passed by it. You can employ, since it's got a light, dry formulation it sinks in straight away, and there isn't any sweaty wrangling as you heave yourself into your opaques. So I was pleased by that also. Skin does feel smoother and much more easy, but as for the firming effects, the jury's still out.
