    Physical Injury

    • The most dangerous of all woodworking side effects is physical trauma to the body. Woodworkers employ a wide variety of large and powerful cutting tools. Many times, these blades can cut fingers, skin and even limbs.

    Respiratory Issues

    • Despite the advent of air filters and masks, dust is a constant presence in any serious woodworking shop. Over time, woodworkers often are exposed to a steady stream of dust in the air. Dust can build up in the lungs and sinus cavities and cause chronic bronchitis, asthma and sinusitis.

    Skin Problems

    • It is impossible for a woodworkers to cover all of their skin when working on a project. That is why dust, sap and wood oils often contact the skin and can cause irritation and even serious disease. Freshly cut wood and exotic wood tend to have a higher concentration of oils that can cause serious skin problems. Another cause of skin irritation among woodworkers can be the residual presence of pesticides in the wood.
