- 1). Log in to your vBulletin forum member account.
- 2). Click on the link of the area of the forum that most interests you. Most vBulletin forums list the various areas of the forum on the home screen. These are normally divided into general categories with links to sub-topics within the general category.
- 3). Browse through the list of threads for a conversation you are interested in joining. You may click the "New Thread" link or button if none of the existing threads are on a topic of interest. This is usually located just above the list of existing threads.
- 4). Click the "Go Advanced" button under the "Quick Reply" box under the last post on any page of an existing thread to open the post text editor. Skip this step if you chose to start a new thread.
- 5). Type the keyboard shortcut for the emoticon you want to use. For example, a wink is typed as ";)" (without the quotes), while a wide grin is ":D" without the quotes. You may click on the shortcut smiley buttons located to the right of the text editor, or select the desired emoticons from the smiley face drop-down menu located in the toolbar of the text editor.
- 6). Click the "Preview Post" button and verify that the emoticons displayed are correct. Click "Submit Reply" or "Post" to publish the message.
