Learn How to Increase Reading Comprehension
My enjoyment of reading was being lost because I have very little free time, so I decided to investigate speed reading courses.
Since I was on a quest to improve my reading speed, I thought it would make sense to find a system that wouldn't only increase my reading speed, but also comprehend all that I read.
Not only was I looking to increase my reading speed, I was also searching for a method to increase reading comprehension.
I investigated many different speed reading courses and their main focus was on increasing words read per minute, but they didn't talk as much about how to increase reading comprehension.
The idea of reading faster was very intriguing to me as I wanted to read as much as I could during my free time.
I had gotten into both political and self help reading, and these subjects demanded a better comprehension of what I was reading.
By doing a simple Google search, I learned that the theory of speed reading is really a collection of reading methods that are designed to increase the rate of reading without decreasing retention or comprehension.
Through my research, I went ahead and purchased an online course on speed reading.
I worked with the online course for about a week, what I found is that speed reading is not only useful in reading for pleasure but is absolutely necessary when used in learning and studying.
I learned that speed reading is a composite of skills which include learning how to 'see' the words rather than inwardly vocalize them.
I found that this was taking quite a bit of practice, as it is normal to say the words silently as we read them.
When I began to notice that my reading and comprehension were improving, I became even more interested.
I decided to do some more online research and came across a course that claimed that it would allow the user to do "mental photography.
" But what exactly is "mental photography"? I found that "mental photography" is the ability to recall images with vividness bordering on actual visual perception.
You see, most people only scratch the surface of what the brain can do, and only use 2% of its capacity.
If you can tap into the other 98%, the brain can do incredible things.
Skeptics on the other hand, claim that no matter what techniques you're taught, you can't develop anything close to a photographic memory.
Even though I was skeptical, I was so intrigue by concept that I went ahead and purchased the course.
The information in the course was truly unbelievable.
It was like I was actually learning to program my brain.
I can now retain an amazing amount of information.
Reading comprehension is so much easier.
Funny how I was searching for a speed reading course, and ended up with so much more.
Speed reading just comes along with it as an added bonus, even though the methods involved with normal speed reading are quite different.
I am so happy that I was able to get past my skepticism because I am living proof that this concept works.
Now, if I can just get my three kids to pick up more books and play fewer video games.
