How to Effectively Remove Age Spots

You might disagree, but hear me out on this. Some would say that it is impossible to remove age spots or reverse any of the signs of aging, even though these things are not truly caused by getting older. According to recent dermatological reports, most of those signs are caused by molecular damage that occurs within the skin's cells throughout a person's life.

When it comes to a dark spot or strangely pigmented patch, the cause is the hormone melanin, responsible for skin pigmentation, freckles, protection from UV damage, a tan and an age spot. The molecules responsible for the other signs of age are known as free radicals.

Free radicals exist in every cell of the body, but are normally neutralized by antioxidants. Researchers have shown that antioxidant levels are lower in older skin and free radical levels are higher. If this imbalance is allowed to continue, the result can be wrinkles, collagen degradation, lost firmness or even a cancerous growth.

You can correct the imbalance by using an antioxidant-rich moisturizer on a daily basis. Some of those moisturizers will help remove age spots, too.

There is one thing that everyone needs to remember when it comes to protecting the skin from the hands of time. UV radiation from the sun increases the production of free radicals and depletes antioxidants. UV rays also stimulate melanin production. In other words, moisturizers can help, but only if you play it safe in the sun.

Today, many moisturizers have an SPF rating or sunburn protection factor. But, how accurate is that rating? It is imperfect, at best, when it comes to preventing free radical damage, skin cancer or wrinkles. Many factors are involved, but one of the problems is this. UVA rays stimulate free radical production, but they do not cause burning or pain. So, your SPF 15 may protect you from sunburn, but not necessarily from free radical damage.

If you want to remove age spots, you need to use a broad spectrum sun-block that lists zinc oxide as the active ingredient. That still does not "guarantee" your protection. You should make every effort to stay in the shade or wear protective clothing, but as far as sun-screening agents go. Zinc oxide is the best that there is.

In order to remove age spots, as quickly as possible, look for a cream that contains EXTRAPONE. It is a compound that includes extracts from the common sedge or nut-grass root. It has been shown in scientific testing to inhibit melanin production by over 40%.

It is important to remember that melanin is one of the skin's natural defense mechanisms. Its purpose is to prevent UV rays from penetrating into the deeper layers of skin. Obviously, if melanin production is inhibiting and the skin becomes lighter, it will also be more easily damaged by the sun.

Make no mistake about it. That's why it is so important to have respect for the sun. Once you remove age spots, you need to be well aware of the role played by UV rays. Otherwise, they'll just "pop" back up, again.
