- Any Halloween theme can become a decorative idea for cupcakes.Halloween image by George from Fotolia.com
Cupcakes are as versatile as full-size cakes but are much easier to decorate and serve. The small, round, individual desserts can support a wide variety of styles and flavors, including Halloween-themed decorations. From cartoonish ghost vanilla cupcakes to eerie alien lime cupcakes, the only limit is your imagination. For the best results, let the cupcakes cool completely before adding frosting. Warm cupcakes will melt the frosting, ruining the decoration. - Get into the gory side of Halloween with bloody eye-decorated cupcakes. Each eye consists of red velvet cupcake in a white cupcake liner. Smooth white fondant covers the top of the round cupcake to provide an eyeball shape. Thin lines of red icing form bloody veins around the white eyeball and green icing forms the colored iris. A flat and round licorice dot provides a pupil for the cupcake. A light coat of glaze over the top of the cupcake and decorations makes the eyeball look wet and real.
- Turn a tray of cupcakes into an invasion of crazy aliens for an amusing Halloween dessert. Each alien consists of a vanilla cupcake in a green cupcake paper liner. Six gummy worms spring from around the edges of the cupcake top and fall around the sides to create the alien's tentacles. Tiny dots of green frosting form suckers down the middle of each gummy tentacle.
Spiky green frosting covers the top of each Halloween cupcake to create the alien's wild fur. A black dot of frosting inside a white fondant circle on top of the cupcake creates the alien's large eye. A red line of frosting with white frosting fangs creates the alien's snarling mouth. - Keep things simple with easy themed pumpkin cupcakes for Halloween. Quick decorations can include a chocolate cupcake topped with an orange and black frosted jack-o-lantern face or a vanilla cupcake topped with a green coconut grass and candy pumpkin "pumpkin patch". A pumpkin cupcake in an orange liner with orange frosting and a rectangular green hard candy stem forms a cupcake that looks like a mini pumpkin.
- Whip up a fancy-looking Halloween treat with easy witch's hat cupcakes. Each hat consists of a chocolate cupcake and small sugar cone with a pointed bottom. The cupcakes are cut in half with the bottom piece serving as the hat brim and the crumbled top stuffed into the cone.
The upside-down cone sits in the middle of the bottom-half cupcake to form a witch's hat shape. Dark chocolate frosting covered with spider web-shaped white icing decorates each hat and helps secure the cone and cupcake together. Green fondant spiders crawl across the brim of the hat for an extra spooky accent.
