Interactive Science Projects
- Try Science is an attractive education resource for children, parents and teachers. The easy-to-understand projects are contributed by a variety of educational establishments and adapted for the site. Examples include projects demonstrating lung capacity, the effects of soil salinity on seed growth, and the use of sound to infer the position of objects. The experiments are suitable for students in grades three to eight. Try Science projects are available in both interactive online versions and as practical lab-based instructions.
- NASA's education department developed NASA Quest, an online collection of interactive science projects aimed at school-age students. Examples of available projects include determining the differences between Mars and Earth, designing robotic aircraft, creating a planet habitable by humans, predicting the outcome of space-based experiments, learning about radiation biology, and devising practical solutions to problems of air traffic.
- Interactive science projects are available through Gizmos at the Explore Learning website. These comprehensive projects are suitable for students in grades 3 to 12 and provide a good grounding in scientific method. Disciplines include the life and earth sciences, physics, chemistry, biology and astronomy. The Explore Learning site won the "Best Science Instruction Solution" SIIA CODiE Award in 2007 and 2010.
- The Channel 4 Learning site provides a number of interactive resources useful for both teachers and students. Links include a project-filled site aimed at students ages 11 to 14, developed in association with the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Institute of Physics. Another link provides access to a project where students can design a software robot and test it in various hazard-filled environments.
