How to Make a Sacque Back Gown
- 1). Press the fabric. Cut out the paper pattern pieces. Pin them to the fabric.
- 2). Cut out the fabric pieces and remove the paper pieces from them. Repeat the process, as there should be two sets of pieces -- one for the lining and one for the outer dress.
- 3). Join and sew the bodice pieces, and then the skirt pieces, with right sides together. Pleat the skirt and attached back section as well as the sleeves, according to the pattern's pleat lines, and sew in place at the edge of the fabric.
- 4). Join and sew the sleeves to the bodice and the bodice to the skirt with right sides together. Join and sew the lining and outer dress with right sides together, leaving the bottom of the skirt unsewn.
- 5). Add optional embellishments such as a trim of ruching or ruffles or such as embroidery all over the dress. Consider horizontal ruching on the petticoat panel and vertical ruching on the overskirt and jacket panels.
- 6). Have the wearer try on the gown. Hem the gown to ankle length for informal wear or floor length for formal wear.
