How to File Income Tax Returns for the State of Massachussetts
- 1). Visit the WebFile website at https://wfb.dor.state.ma.us/income/. Check eligibility for WebFile filing option by mouse-clicking the "Check My Eligibility" button and answering the short questionnaire that results.
- 2). Return to the WebFile main page. Select the "Create an Account" button and register for a WebFile account, filling out the provided form with required details, including social security number.
- 3). Click the file return option. Respond to each question on the WebFile return. WebFile guides you through each question, prompting you for answers and performing the calculations on its own. - 4). Proceed to the beginning of the return and review the answer to each question to ensure accuracy. If money is owed, either choose the electronic payment option and fill out the relevant information for the savings or checking account that will be accessed or choose to pay by check. If you are owed a refund, select the direct deposit option for a quicker payment.
- 5). File the return. Record the 14-character confirmation number that confirms your filing. Check your e-mail account, which should also receive a confirmation notice. If paying by check, print the Form PV, which is available to print at the end of the return, and draft a check to the "Commonwealth of Massachusetts." Mail the check to the address indicated on the Form PV: Massachusetts Department of Revenue, PO Box 7003, Boston, MA 02204.
