- 1). Click "Start" and "Computer."
- 2). Right-click your hard drive and click "Properties."
- 3). Go to the "Tools" tab. Click the "Check Now" button.
- 4). Check the boxes if you want to have chkdsk check for and fix bad sectors or to automatically fix any errors it finds. Click "Start." Click "Schedule Disk Check." Restart your computer. Before Windows loads, the chkdsk screen appears and automatically runs the chkdsk utility on your hard drive.
