    • Toyota's 2002 Tacoma is a personal pickup and was essentially the same as the 2001 version with a new optional moonroof. It was branded the Tacoma in the North American market, and the Hilux outside of North America. Toyota also produced the Tundra in 2002 as a full-size pickup truck with a larger engine and cargo capacity. Both trucks were built with rear two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Regular, extended access and double cab models were available with four-cylinder, six-cylinder and eight-cylinder engines.

    Power

    • Toyota's 2002 pickup truck featured two-wheel and four-wheel drive for regular, access and double cabs with either a 2.4-liter or 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, or a 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine on the Tacoma, or a 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine or a 4.7-liter eight cylinder engine on the Tundra. The Tacoma 3.4-liter engine was only available on the extended- and double-cab models. Both engines were available on all cab models of the Tundra. The four-cylinder engine was in an inline-four configuration, the six-cylinder and eight-cylinder engines were in a V configuration. The engines ranged from 150 to 245 horsepower, could sustain payloads of 1,395 to 1,938 pounds and could tow 3,500 to 7,200 pounds.

    Fuel Economy

    • Toyota's 2002 truck's fuel economy depended on engine, weight and features. The two-wheel drive base model with a 2.4-liter engine was capable of 22 miles per gallon. The four-wheel-drive model with a 3.4-liter engine achieved 18 miles per gallon. The top-of-the-line Tacoma model with double cab and four-wheel drive had a 16 mile per gallon rating. The top-of-the-line Tundra model with extended cab four-wheel drive and 4.7-liter eight-cylinder engine achieved 14 miles per gallon.

    Other Features

    • The regular cab 2002 Toyota Tacoma extended 185.4 inches long, 66.5 inches wide and 64.1 high, with a curb weight of 2,770 pounds. The Tundra was all around larger and extended 217.5 inches, 75.2 inches wide and 70.5 inches high, with a curb weight of 3,839 pounds. The Tacoma access cab model was heavier at 2,970 pounds and was 202.9 inches long, and the Tundra's was 4,644 pounds and the same length as the regular cab sacrificing cargo bed length. The Tacoma double cab model was the same length as the extended cab, sacrificing cargo bed length On both trucks the regular cab had two doors, the extended-access cab had two full-size doors and two half doors, while the Tacoma's double cab had four doors. The trucks sat three to five people depending on the cab size.
