    About

    • The HIP grant was issued to any pregnant mother who was a UK citizen; it issued a one-time payment of 190 euros for every pregnancy the mother had. Receiving the grant did not interfere with any other form of aid the mother may have been eligible for. Forms had to be received from a midwife or doctor, and to be eligible, mothers had to be in their 25th week of pregnancy by January 1, 2011. Applications for the grant are no longer being accepted as of June, 2011.

    Procedure

    • The UK government urges everyone to promptly and accurately fill out the paperwork for the grant. Forms need to be mailed to the Health in Pregnancy grant office and must be signed by a doctor or midwife to verify their accuracy. Once the document is signed, the patient has 31 days to mail in the application. Once the mother is approved, the money is directly deposited into her bank account, or a joint account she has with her spouse or significant other.

    U.S. Residents

    • If you are a UK citizen who lives in the United States, you can still be eligible for the HIP grant. You need to be a designated UK civil servant or military professional. The same paperwork and eligibility guidelines apply. In addition, the UK government will only pay grants to expatriates who were consistently living in the UK before their time overseas.

    Sure Start

    • The Sure Start grant is for women in pregnancy, but is only given to women with a demonstrated financial need. To qualify, women must be receiving income assistance, job-seeking assistance, pension credit, or a child tax credit. The amount of the grant is up to 500 euros, depending on the financial situation of the applicant. Applicants must be expecting a baby within 11 weeks at the time of application, or have given birth within three months of application.
