    • 1). Clean off the screw and the surrounding area with a bathroom cleaner designed to eliminate mold and mildew. This will help your tools get a better grip on the screw. Dry the area thoroughly.

    • 2). Apply penetrating lubricant to the screw and allow this to soak in. The longer you let the lubricant sit, the more of a chance it has to work. Insert the tip of a screwdriver into the screw. Hold the lower part of the screwdriver steady in the screw with one hand and use your other hand to turn the screwdriver.

    • 3). Use a plumbing torch to heat the screw. This will cause the screw to expand. Unscrew with a screwdriver.

    • 4). Open up a pair of locking pliers. Fasten them around the screw. Tighten the end of the pliers to lock them in place. Unscrew counterclockwise.

    • 5). Saw off the head of the screw with a hacksaw blade. This step is helpful when trying to remove plumbing screws such as handle screws. Once the top is removed, pull off the handle. Remove the body of the screw with a pair of locking pliers.

    • 6). Choose a drill bit that is slightly smaller than the width of the screw. Drill out the middle of the screw to a depth of about half an inch or so. Carefully tap a screw extractor into the drill hole. Attach a screw extractor handle to the top of the extractor bit. Turn counterclockwise slowly until the screw comes out of the plumbing.
