DIY Solar Dryer
- 1). Visit local department and Internet stores and look around at the types of clotheslines currently available. Some clotheslines are specifically made to fold up or retract for portability, which is useful for small spaces such as an apartment patio. Other designs attach to the side of a house, negating the need to bury large, heavy poles in the ground.
- 2). Walk around your yard to determine the sunniest area without obstructions. You may want to take notes every two to three hours to determine where it stays sunniest the longest, so you can use your solar dryer year round. If your dryer will be on a small patio, this step is not necessary since space is limited.
- 3). Purchase the type of solar dryer appropriate for your available space, preferences and budget.
- 4). Assemble and erect, if necessary, the clothesline you have chosen according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- 5). Attach the clothesline securely to its supports. Wet clothing can be quite heavy so be sure to select strong supports and attachments.
