Do you really know what a life coach do? Maybe you are wondering if they are therapists or consultants, if they have any training or just started calling themselves coaches at some point.
Keep reading to find out the top 5 myths about coaching.
  1. Anyone can call himself (or herself) a life coach.
Professional coaches get certified and follow the International Coach Federation high ethical standards.
That includes getting good training, involving a full curriculum to study, practice (coaching and being coached), feedback from a mentor coach and a written exam.
If you want to be sure you hire a professional life coach, check his/her credentials.
  2. A life coach is a combination of a consultant and a therapist.
This is a very common assumption, and it's wrong.
Coaches don't tell you what to do or give you advice.
We don't focus on past behaviors.
Coaches are for people that want more success in their lives and businesses.
We support our clients to focus on the present, and to find their own solutions.
  3. My friends and family are my coaches.
Friends and family usually think they know what's best for you, they have a desired outcome for your situation and their own agenda.
Sometimes they keep interrupting you to tell you their own problems...
And that's fine, that's what friends are for! Coaches, on the other hand, are trained to be objective listeners, to be honest, non-judgmental and unattached to the outcome.
We want what you want, and we are sure that only you know what is best for you.
  4. Coaches are always happy and motivated.
    We are human beings first.
I have bad days too! And yes, we can help you find motivation, but you are the only one that can motivate you.
A coach will help you clarify what you really want, and set a strategy and smart goals so that you can take action.
And believe me, setting goals and taking action boost motivation.
  5. No one needs a life coach.
That is actually true, you don't need a life coach.
However, if you want to live your life at its full potential, if you want to achieve all your dreams and goals faster, easier and more joyfully, if you want unconditional support, you might want to hire a coach.
