How to Clean With a Steam Vac
- 1). Remove all furniture and other items from the room to be steam cleaned, if cleaning carpet or flooring.
- 2). Vacuum any excess dust and dirt from the floor. Pretreat any serious stains with stain cleaner.
- 3). Locate the water and/or detergent tanks on the steam cleaner. Remove the water tank and fill it with hot tap water and return it to the steam vac. Fill the detergent tank with the recommended carpet cleaner. Some units have a single tank for a detergent/water solution.
- 4). Latch the water tank to the unit securely. Set the steam vac on the carpet to be cleaned or next to the furniture or drapery and plug it in.
- 5). Turn the steam vac on and move the unit or hose attachment over the carpet, drapery and/or upholstery. Move it back and forth over more seriously soiled patches and high-traffic areas.
- 6). Unplug the steam vac when the area has been cleaned. Remove the recovery tank, which is usually below the water tank. It will be filled with dirty water. Dump the tank into a laundry sink or toilet. Rinse out all of the tanks.
- 7). Place towels on the floor in traffic areas if you can't avoid having people walk on the carpet before it dries. Otherwise, don't walk on the carpet or use the furniture until it's dry. Replace furniture in the room only when the carpet is completely dry.
