How to Prevent Completely Rusted Up Rotors
- 1). Remove your car's rotors as instructed in your model's manual. This will be different on different cars. Clean the rotors and remove any debris or buildup on and around them. WD-40 and a lint-free towel work well to clean the rotors and to remove dust and the beginnings of any rust. Make sure to get the exterior and interior edges of the rotors.
- 2). Spray the rotors with more WD-40 or fogging oil, available at most major car supply stores. Fogging oil is a thick oil in an aerosol preparation that will protect against corrosion. If you don't clean the rotors manually or don't want to remove them, you can make sure to coat the rotors by spraying about half a can of it into the intake valve while running the car.
- 3). Replace the rotors if you have removed them. Repeat this process twice a year to keep the rotors protected from rust.
