How to Touch Up an Eggshell Paint

    • 1). Cover the floor, furniture and any other surfaces you do not wish to paint with a tarp, canvas or plastic sheeting. Use masking tape to draw a straight line along the boundaries of your painted surface.

    • 2). Check to see if there is leftover paint from the first paint job, and swipe a sample onto a piece of cardboard or other material. If not, chip off some of the paint and take it with you when you go to buy paint.

    • 3). Have a staff member at the paint store match your paint sample and provide you with the most similar paint possible.

    • 4). Buy enough paint to cover the whole surface you wish to retouch. If you only paint the spots that need retouching, the surface will continue to appear uneven. If you are painting over bare wall patches, buy a primer or flat latex paint of the same color to prime the surface before applying the eggshell paint.

    • 5). Shake the paint can before opening it, then open and stir it with a long, disposable tool. Pour it into the paint tin liner and coat your roller brush in the primer or paint.

    • 6). Apply the first coat and let it dry for about 30 minutes. Turn on a bright light and view the entire surface from one side of the room. Check for imperfections such as an uneven surface or tone differences. Apply a second and/or third coat and let it dry.
