    • 1). Unplug the Delta miter saw from its electrical outlet. Inspect the cord for any defects such as cuts in the insulation or frayed wires. Cut insulation and frayed wires require an electrical cord replacement at a Delta service center. If the cord is in good shape, move on.

    • 2). Plug the miter saw into a working outlet. If the saw works, the issue is with the outlet. If the saw still does not work, disconnect any extension cords from the saw and try the saw with a direct connection to the outlet. If the saw works, replace the extension cord. If the saw does not work, move on.

    • 3). Locate the motor brush holders on the engine housing. There are two holders that are directly opposite each other. Turn the holders counterclockwise 1/4 turn and pull the brushes out of the motor.

    • 4). Measure the carbon on the brushes. If the carbon measures less than 3/16 inch in length, or you see any burning on the springs or wires, replace the brushes. If the saw does not work after replacing the brushes, take the saw to an authorized repair center for Delta as the motor is likely defective.
