    Hidden Storage

    • Create extra space by utilizing hidden areas. Add a coat rack or individual hooks behind your hanging clothes for accessories such as belts, hats or scarfs. Hanging these tricky storage items will free up much-needed space. Placing a shoe rack on the inside of the door clears the floor, making your closet more accessible. Another way to hide your items is by hanging fabric curtains, adding character and fun to your space while still being functional.

    Organizers

    • You'll find closet organizers in various styles at home improvements stores. Adding shelves and drawers to small closets will make the space appear open and functional. For example, place shelves above existing hanging rods and the drawers below, putting rarely used items on top shelves and items you would like hidden inside the drawers. Keeping the closet clean and organized will free your mornings, too, because things are easier to find.

    Island

    • Adding an island within a walk-in closet will utilize open space for more storage. Customizing the shelves and drawers by size and shape helps to organize your different items. A shallow drawer, for example, will work best for jewelry or angled shelves to display your shoes. The island also adds a space for decoration to add creativity to the space. Use a lavender or vanilla-scented center piece to add color and freshness.
