How to Change the Gas Fuel Filter on a Chevy Truck
- 1). Open the hood for access to the engine compartment. Locate the fuse panel behind the battery. The fuse panel will be a black box. Open the panel and pull the fuse relay.
- 2). Start the truck and allow it to idle until the truck stalls out. This will depressurize the fuel system.
- 3). Locate the fuel filter under the truck. The filter is located under the driver door and is bolted to the frame rail in a mounting bracket.
- 4). Unscrew the inlet line with a line wrench. A second line will be required to hold the fixed nut on the filter. This will prevent the filter from twisting the remaining fuel line attached to the other end. Ensure there is a drain pan under the fuel lines to catch any fuel remaining in the lines.
- 5). Unscrew the remaining fuel line with a line wrench. Ensure any excess fuel flows to the drain pan.
- 6). Unbolt the filter from the mounting bracket with a socket wrench. Pull the filter away from the truck.
- 7). Bolt the new filter to the bracket with a socket wrench. Ensure the arrow on the filter is pointing toward the front of the truck as this will designate fuel flow.
- 8). Screw the fuel lines to the filter with the line wrench. Tighten both lines to secure them to the filter and prevent any leaking.
- 9). Insert the relay back into the panel. This will provide power to the fuel pump.
