Chainsaw Carving Schools
- The Wisconsin School of Chainsaw Carving's five day class is held Monday through Friday, and covers designing and carving an eagle bust; carving a standing bear and a death mask of a bear or eagle; wood characteristics; how to deal with cracks and applying finishes. The school will not be holding classes in 2011.
- The three-day carving class at the Bear in a Box in Allyn, Washington, covers chainsaw safety, wood selection, design, roughing out a carving, basic and advanced cuts, and finishing techniques. Included in the price is everything you'll need, including a chainsaw.
- For a short, two-day class, there's the Steve Backus Chainsaw Carving "boot camp." Held at Bailey's in Woodland, California, the first day is a beginner class and the second is for advanced carvers and those who complete the beginner class. Beginners will carve a salmon in relief, and the advanced class will complete a realistic standing bear.
