Receiving Food Stamps for Free Food

    • 1). Call the toll free Food Stamp Program Information number of 1-800-221-5689 to locate the Food Stamp office nearest to you. While asking the worker for the location and phone number of the nearest Food Stamp or Social Security office that accepts applications for food stamps, also ask if applying online is possible in your state.

    • 2). Obtain an application by either traveling to the nearest Food Stamp office, calling the nearest office and asking them to mail you an application, or by obtaining an application online if they are available in your state.

    • 3). Fill out the application. Be sure to ask the worker at the Food Stamp office or a friend if you need help filling out any of your financial information.

    • 4). Turn in your application as soon as you have finished, and be sure to schedule an interview before you leave. Ask the worker there if you will need to bring any additional paperwork to the interview.

    • 5). When you arrive for the interview, ask the worker to make copies of all of your paperwork to make sure that they cannot say you didn't bring something in the future. Make sure all of your original copies are given back to you.

    • 6). If you are denied, always ask why and never just settle with a shady answer. You can get a lawyer to handle your case if you believe that you were unfairly denied.

Getting Free Food From Charitable Organizations

    • 1). Try checking for food banks in your area in the local phone book or online. One organization that can be found online is "Second Harvest." This organization controls a large number of food banks all across the country.

    • 2). Look up soup kitchens in the local phone book and online as well. You can bring your entire family to a soup kitchen to enjoy a free hot meal, and don't worry, they serve more than just soup.

    • 3). Look for churches that give away free breakfast before their daily service as a way to get free food every morning.

    • 4). If you are a college student, start going to club meetings that interest you. Many clubs are funded by the university's student government to provide free food at their meetings.
