Paraben Free Products - A Safety Norm For Skin Care Products
What is Paraben?
Parabens are chemical compounds derived from para-hydroxybenzoic acid. Common parabens include methylparaben, ethylparaben propylparaben and butylparaben. These are highly anti-fungal and anti-bacterial products and are used as preservatives in most skin care and personal hygine products like face creams, soaps, shampoos, tooth paste, etc.
Use of Parabens in skin care products has recently become a controversial topic. Looks like world is divided in two sets of scientists – one who believe that anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties of Parabens make it apt for usage in any product. On the other hand there are likeminded people who support paraben free products and think that we still need more research before we can give Paraben a clean chit.
But what is the truth? – This controversy has raised many unanswered questions in our mind –
Are Parebens safe to use?
Should we look out for paraben free products or our existing products are fine?
Does usage of Paraben lead to breast cancer?
And many more like these.
As a common consumer it is very hard for us to decide which side to believe. Scientific research usually goes on for many years together. We cannot just wait for results to be published and then take a decision. We want to use the products now because our skin needs them now.
So, the best way out is to completely avoid the use of parabens – why take unnecessary risk?
There are many paraben free products available in the market. Just go through the ingredients list and select a product that does not contain parabens, fragrances and alcohol based ingredients.
So the thumb rule while selecting a paraben free products is – to scan through the ingredient’s list and make sure the product is Paraben free and consists of natural substances only.
