Belva Slate shares these directions to help you create beautiful stars you can hang up anywhere. This would make a fun decoration for Independence Day or even a Christmas tree ornament.

Print out Belva's pattern (find it here) or use it as a guide to make your own pattern of any size. It is easy to make your own star pattern by simply drawing a equilateral triangle (all three sides are the same length), then draw a circle around that triangle, and then, using one side of the equilateral triangle, draw an isosceles triangle (two of the sides are the same length). The end design should look similar to an ice cream cone shape.
You will need to make 10 copies of the pattern. Print or draw the pattern to the wrong side of the paper (the side that will be on the inside of the star). Next, you need to cut out all of your cones
After you have all of your cones cut, fold up the edges on the 2 dotted line shown in the pattern. These 2 flaps should be folded toward the side of the paper that will be the outside of the star.
Now, using 5 of the cones to form one star shape, glue the flap 1's to the flap 2's (refer to the pattern).
the glue should go on the side with the writing. This should give you a star shape that is puffed up a little in the middle! Repeat this for the other 5 cones you cut out.
Place your two stars wrong sides together and glue the isosceles triangle's together to form a 3-dimensional star. Let the glue dry completely and then use a piece of string to hang up your star!
