GlaxoSmithKline, the manufacturer of this antidepressant, studied the side effects of the drug. In the study it conducted, it was found out that emotional side effects are doubled such as suicidal thoughts, mood swings, crying episodes and self harm in children happens. The study prompted British officials to recommend to physicians not to prescribe Paxil to children under 18.
The FDA extended its warning to include young adults up to age 25. Due to the increased risk of suicidal thoughts triggered by antidepressants and Paxil lawsuit, the FDA required all antidepressant labels to contain a "black box" warning stating that the drug may possibly trigger suicidal thoughts and behavior.
