4G Tips for Las Vegas Residents

A step up from 3G, or third generation mobile Internet technology, 4G, short for fourth generation, technology has a lot to offer Las Vegas residents like yourself. The fourth generation of wireless telecommunications networks provides faster connection speeds at a fraction of the price of its predecessor. You can now get online quickly and easily, no matter the time or what part of Las Vegas you may find yourself in, especially if you have a smart phone handy. Here are some tips to maximize the benefits of this great new service:

1. As more and more providers emerge that offer 4G products and services, acquiring this type of connectivity gets easier and easier. However, before signing up for the first plan you come across, you need to investigate the coverage in your area. Some providers' networks are available in Las Vegas, while others are not. To avoid problems, take a minute to compare coverage maps on various companies' websites.

2. Get in touch with a primary service provider by going online or calling their customer service number on the phone. Your best bet is to start with the big companies that provide regular cell phone service in your area. Though many people prefer to do things over the Internet these days, a quick phone call can actually save you time and money. When you talk directly to a customer service representative, you get a more personalized answer to whatever question you may be asking.

3. Buy a quality 4G device that is compatible with your local network. In order to establish a mobile connection, you will need a device such as a smart phone or an air card. The latter is a compact plug-in modem that you insert into a computer's USB port to enable it to connect to a mobile network. While many of the cell phones being sold these days come with all the necessary hardware built-in, laptops and other computers are not automatically enabled to handle fourth generation connections and must be adapted before they can be used in this way.

4. Consider using 4G at home as well as on the go. You can get wireless routers to use in a home or office setting. These routers are quite similar to the Wi-Fi routers that are used to create a local wireless network out of a wired cable connection. The thing about these wireless routers is that they are somewhat limited in terms of how much mobility they allow you. For the most part, you have to stay within a few hundred feet of the physical connection in order to have any reception whatsoever. With 4G mobile Internet, on the other hand, service is available whether you are at home or out roaming the streets of Las Vegas. Because it is so flexible, many people believe that mobile Internet will soon come to completely overshadow wired connections, much in the same way as cell phones have all but made land lines obsolete. You can save money by only having one service to cover both needs.
