Be Less Stressed and Get More Done With This Often-Forgotten Technique

On 22nd March it's World Water Day.
Created by the United Nations in 1993, in 2013 the theme is water co-operation.
How does that relate to you and your stress levels? Well, water co-operation boils down to:
  • we humans all depend on water for our lives,
  • we have many different ways we all want to use water,
  • we need to co-operate on what we do with water, because if we don't it has a negative effect on everyone;
  • it's not just humans who need water: animals, plants & basic planetary processes use it too.
And amazingly, if we co-operate in our water usage:
  • there are economic benefits;
  • peace spreads;
  • poverty gets eradicated;
  • the environment is protected, and so on.
How can you apply that to reducing stress in your life? Wouldn't you like some economic benefits of your very own? Would more peace in your life (whether that's you-time, happiness, or something else) be fab? Wouldn't it be great to have a healthy environment? ( I don't mean the air, water, or soil - how about a clutter-free environment, or a supportive environment where you spend time with optimistic friends?) Your Very Own World Water Day
  1. Write down one or two things in your life (or business) that are bugging you, maybe something on which you've tried everything you can think of.
  2. Are you at loggerheads with anyone on one or both of them? (Boss, son/daughter, partner, parent, yourself, supplier, bank, whoever!)
  3. Instead of seeing each of you on different sides, where might there be some common ground, or a common desired outcome?
  4. Brainstorm some ways you could co-operate with them.
    (Not "give in", or pretend your needs aren't important, but find some halfway points you could meet at, or offer them something they want in return for something you want.
    )
  5. Give yourself a reward for getting this far.
  6. Now contact the person or organisation concerned and share your ideas.
    See what develops next, and how they respond.
  7. Have another reward for being willing to try something new.
