How I Saved Money On My Car Insurance
Recently my car insurance policy came up for its annual renewal.
The price I was being quoted was actually higher than last year.
I hadn't made any claims and as a result had earned my fourth year of no claims bonus; a level at which many insurance adverts tell you it is possible to earn large discounts.
At this point I thought the price my insurance company was asking for was very unfair and decided to see what I could do about it.
Here is how I got on: Firstly I knew I had to carry out some research to see how I could lower my quote.
They were literally hundreds if not thousands of articles and tips pages online advising how to cut down the cost of your insurance.
Some were better than others but common tips involved increasing my voluntary excess, protecting my no claims bonus, avoiding any fines or penalties, improving security and most importantly shopping round for quotes.
This isn't something I had done before, ever since passing my test I've been with the same insurance company but many of the sites I visited suggested this was a great way to saving money on my premium.
This was especially true for people like me who had a few years of no claims bonus behind them.
So that is exactly what I did.
I started by going to search engines and looking for car insurance quotes.
This led me to a number of sites where I could compare quotes from dozens of insurance companies with a single search.
The results were quite amazing, for just over an hour of research online I was now presented with at least ten quotes that were cheaper than my current provider.
A bit more filtering got rid of those that didn't offer exactly what I wanted and then I was faced with a choice of three policies.
The end result was a saving of more than £50.
