How To Cut Down On The Soft Drinks And Give Your Child Healthy Drinking Habits

One of our friend's son is nine years old and heavily obese.
His body went under a transformation from normal kid-size to fat-boy in under one year, but he had it coming.
When this couple visited us with their son, they always brought several king-size bottles of cola, sweets, honey, and cakes, and upon arrival they gave him glass of cola, which he drank in mere seconds.
Then he went to the refrigerator and served himself several other glasses.
He could empty a bottle of 2 litres in minutes.
Obviously, this boy was never hungry when dinner was served, and his mother would then bring him biscuits and sweets, while we were eating.
She could probably get a patent on this "how to create a monster" pattern.
All that sugar did not just cause obesity in their son.
He performed badly in school, and he couldn't focus on anything, not even watching the dozens of films his parents let him watch daily.
So it is in your best interest to cut down on the sugar intake for your child - and he will thank you for it later.
It is time to introduce a few rules: #1 - Soft drinks are for special occasions only.
Do you remember when you were a child, how often you drank soft drinks? I don't know about you, but I was allowed to have one glass or a small bottle on very special occasions, like dinner at my grandmother's, or at birthday parties.
We didn't exactly hunger for soda drinks between those occasions, but the beverage tasted so good on those rare events.
Since soft drinks are taken in at a much higher scale today, it is probably too drastic to cut it down to twice a year.
However, leaving it for weekends should be possible.
#2 - Soft drinks should mean no more than one glass or small bottle or can.
Your child should not go thirsty, but soft drinks don't really satisfy the need for beverage anyway.
Sever your child a fizzy drink for pleasure and let him quench his thirst with water with a squish of lemon.
#3 - Always server water with the meals - for all of you.
Children learn a lot from what they see others do, especially their parents and family.
Make it a good habit to drink water with your meals.
This is healthy, and it has the double advantage of making your food taste like it should.
