How to Grow Vegetables in Part Shade
- 1). Choose vegetables which will survive in a partially shaded area. According to the University of Minnesota, vegetables grown for their leaves such as spinach, endives, lettuce and kale can survive well in shaded areas.
- 2). Choose a growing area that receives at least 3 to 6 hours of sunlight per day. Check to make sure tree roots aren't interfering with the garden, or vegetables may have a difficult time developing their own root systems.
- 3). Till the soil thoroughly to remove rocks and large dirt clods, to allow roots to take hold of the earth.
- 4). Moisten all of the garden soil with water before planting.
- 5). Create raised beds and valleys depending on the instructions given for each vegetable.
- 6). Plant vegetables in the soil. Water them regularly throughout the growing season.
