Declutter Your Life One Room at a Time
So, having made the decision to live more comfortably, how do you start? Well, there's lots of advice available. Some good, some not so good.
One mistake many people make when it comes clearing out clutter is to take on too much all at once. It's important to take it one room at a time. If you're keen on making progress quickly, you can take one room per day over a week or two. However, if you want to take your time and find good homes for your old clutter, or even sell it, you'll want to take a little longer. Beware of procrastination however, as you'll come across it at some stage.
A good place to start is your own bedroom. Firstly because, if you've been cluttered for some time it's likely this room will be home to a great deal of clutter and secondly, once it's clear of clutter you'll have somewhere to chill out and enjoy the start of your clutter-free life.
Bedrooms can be decluttered in a relatively short amount of time if you go about it in the right way. There are a few tips and tricks you can employ, from using baskets to tidy trinkets, jewelery and items that you may use regularly and don't seem to have a set home, to giving yourself a good half-day to tackle the closet or wardrobe.
Methodically moving from one room to the next is the most effective way to start living a clutter-free life. You'll be tempted to hop from one room to the next but resist this until the room you are working with is looking just how you want it. Of course, you're also going to find items in certain rooms that belong in other room so, by all means, return them to their proper place but don't linger and start a new task till the current one is complete.
Here is a quick run down of how long you can expect to spend in each room when you a reducing clutter.
