How to Get a New SATA Seagate Hard Drive to Work with an Old IDE Motherboard

    • 1). Install the SATA hard drive into a vacant 3.5-inch hard drive bay.

    • 2). Connect the IDE data cable to an available port on the motherboard.

    • 3). Attach the SATA side of the SATA to IDE adapter to the rear face of the SATA hard drive. This adapter inserts into the power and data connectors on the rear of the SATA hard drive. This adapter also provides an IDE power connector and data connector on the other side enabling connection with the computer's IDE connectors.

    • 4). Connect a four-pin Molex connector to the available power port on the adapter.

    • 5). Connect the opposite and of the previously installed IDE cable into the IDE ports on the rear of the adapter. The hard drive may now be used as a standard IDE device.
