How to Become a Bail Agent in Virginia
- 1). Applicants for a bail enforcement agent license must obtain, complete and turn in the required forms to the Department of Criminal Justice Services to begin the licensing process. These forms include the Initial Bail Enforcement Agent Application, Criminal History Supplemental Form (if necessary), the Fingerprint Processing Package, including application and fingerprint card, and the $50 non-refundable processing fee.
- 2). The criminal background check will performed by the Virginia State Police through a Virginia criminal history records search and a national records search to verify and obtain any criminal records.
- 3). Entry level training must be completed by the applicant through the Private Security Services Certified Training Schools. This training consists of courses in ethics, fugitive recovery, law, remanding to custody, an a written comprehensive exam on all material covered.
- 4). Applicants who will carry or have access to firearms while on duty are required to complete firearms training and to obtain a firearms endorsement through the state. This training must be completed at an approved training facility.
