You need to know that there are two sources of magnification for light microscopes: the objective lens and the eyepiece lens. By multiplying the power of objective lens with the eyepiece lens gives you total magnification. Most of the world's light microscope applications require a low level of magnification. So, do not get trapped to microscopes with high level of magnification. And, at last you have to decide whether you need a compound or stereo microscope. Compound or stereo microscopes are referred to as one with high or low power respectively.

If you want to see the things in detail, then compound microscope suits you best.
