Minnesota Twins - So What, It"s Cold Outside!
If you're a native like Gardenhire, you can probably echo the sentiment.
Whether you're from Minnesota or some other city that has also been experiencing these unusually frigid cold temperatures, you know that what Gardenhire says is true.
But the unseasonably cold weather hasn't stopped the Twins Winter Caravan from warming up the scene in spite of snowy conditions and sub zero temperatures.
If you question the loyalty of Twins fans, you certainly shouldn't.
Nearly 300 fans packed the Northland Inn located in Crookston recently to get a peek at Coach Joe Vavra, lefty Jack Morris and Gardenhire and not one complaint was uttered about trotting through wind chills of nearly 40 below zero.
Now that's love for a team that's been serving up a heaping helping of love in return for fans who've been supporting them for almost 50 years of Caravan.
It's an arctic blast, true enough, but even the cold temperatures can't stop appreciation from the team this year.
"You know you aren't going to be out in it for long, but this is extreme cold, so you tip your hat even more for the fans coming out in weather like this.
Still, I expect it because they are Minnesotans and they are North Dakotans and they are used to it.
" The national news has even taken note of the record low temperatures in Minnesota and the brisk reality is that temperatures are expected to go even lower as the Caravan continues on its mission.
Fortunately, the cold weather has not lowered spirits or enthusiasm with the Twins and their fans.
This says a lot about the team and their fans.
With the focus of each stop along the Caravan being the sport and not the weather, while inside where it's warm, it was easy to take your mind off the cold waiting for you outside and that's what everyone basically did, focused on baseball.
Maybe there was a guardian angel traveling along with the team as they visited schools in Minnesota because many schools were experiencing closings and delays but the Twins met with warm buildings and warm receptions for each school on the Caravan schedule.
From Erskine to Magellsen to Thief River Falls, there was ample talk about Spring Training and thoughts that turned to the warmth and sunshine-filled days that lie ahead for the Twins.
Seems as if most fans have the sentiment that whether it's freezing cold or not, they're willing to throw on a few more layers and brave the cold to show their love and support for the Twins, who were anxious to do the same during this year's Caravan.
With respect to the fans and team, if that isn't love, we don't know what is!
