For most people, opting for the installation of DIY conservatories is THE cost-cutting move.
More patient people take this even farther and go for used conservatories instead.
However, while second hand conservatories are relatively inexpensive, they are not easily available.
It can be difficult to find one very close to the style you been dreaming of, but it can be done.
It's just that the options are naturally not as numerous.
Here is an attempt to enlighten you with the pros and cons of some styles of conservatories you'd mostly bump into when you read item description pages.
Victorian - These conservatories make excellent dining areas.
They are very attractive.
Multi-faceted bay-ends are characteristic of a Victorian conservatory, allowing for versatility in terms of door placement.
They can be roomy but with the shape of the floor resulting to the bay-end, setting and rearranging furniture may not be as easy.
Edwardian - These geometric conservatories are roomy.
They make good entertaining areas as there will be enough room for guests.
Furniture layout is easier with this type of conservatory.
While it is attractive enough, it can rarely match the beauty of the Victorian.
This can be easy to install though as you only need to work on four angles, as opposed to the relative complexity of the Victorian.
Sun Lounges - These conservatories are built to take in as much sun as possible.
They can be more expensive since full panels are used instead of dwarf walls.
This makes for excellent garden viewing and makes a large entertaining area as well.
Gable End - If you want a more traditional look, this is the way to go.
Just like the Edwardian conservatory, it can be easily installed.
This is perhaps the most versatile type because it can complement most house styles and schemes, and be used for multiple purposes (breakfast room, entertaining area, etc) Pavilion - These conservatories give the illusion of space.
This is a good option for those who do not have a lot of space.
The modern design can also complement contemporary houses.
Lean to - If you want a basic sun room, the lean-to is a good option.
It is relatively inexpensive and is easier to install, making it an ideal choice for the beginner DIY-er.
This list can be handy the next time used-item shopping.
Just keep in mind that whatever conservatory you choose, it should at least 'agree' with how the rest of your house looks like.
