How to Figure Out My GPA on My Transcripts

104 11
    • 1). Assign each letter grade and sub-letter grade the following values: A = 4, A- = 3.67, B+ = 3.33, B = 3, B- = 2.67, C+ = 2.33, C = 2, C- = 1.67, D+ = 1.33, D = 1, D- = 0.667 and F = 0.

    • 2). Tally up the total number of grades on your transcript then separate each individual letter grade into groups. For example, a group of nine grades could be divided into three letter groups of five As, three Bs and one C.

    • 3). Add up the number of credit hours earned for each letter grade. For example, if you took four classes worth three credit hours apiece and one class worth four credit hours and earned As in all of them then you would have a total of (3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 5) = 17 "A" credit hours. Do this for each letter grade.

    • 4). Multiply each group by its corresponding letter grade value. For example, if you have 17 "A" credit hours and an A is worth 4 GPA points then the calculation becomes: (17 * 4) = 68 grade points. Do this for each grade group.

    • 5). Add up the results of the previous multiplications and the total number of credit hours. For example, for a transcript with 17 "A" hours, 9 "B" hours and 3 "C" hours the summation finds: ((17 * 4) = 68) + ((9 * 3) = 27) + ((3 * 2) = 6) becomes 68 + 27 + 6 = 101 grade points. The total number of credit hours is: (17 + 9 + 3) = 29 credit hours.

    • 6). Use your calculator to divide the result of the grade point equation by the number of total credit hours. For example, the total GPA value of 17 "A" credit hours, 9 "B" credit hours and 1 "C" credit hour is equal to: (101 / 29) = 3.48.
