Tom Bowen used and recommended many Home Remedies that are simple and effective and can be integrated with Bowen Therapy.
I have listed here a few of them.
All ingredients are easily obtainable in your local supermarket or grocery store.
For bunions or calcification in joints:
  • Use 2 tablespoons of Epson salts (magnesium sulphate) in a bowl of very warm water
  • Soak bunion for 20 min, then rub in Iodex cream
  • Do every night for 1 month
  • Iodex cream:
  • Oil of wintergreen - 3 drops
  • White iodine - 1 drop
  • Sorbelene crème to absorb all oil
  • Mix ingredients until blended
For aches and pains or general relaxation:
  • Use one cup of washing soda in a bath
  • Soak for at least 20 mins
  • Apple Cider Vinegar:
  • This aids cellular healing.
Use for damaged tissue, bone bruises and soft tissue injuries.
  • Soak a face washer in apple cider vinegar and wrap around injured area like a poultice.
(For sensitive skin, dilute the vinegar with water).
  • Put glad wrap over it
  • Cover with a bandage
  • Leave overnight or at least 4 to 5 hours.
  • Washing soda pack to draw fluid off a joint:
  • Crush Washing Soda crystals (sodium carbonate, sal soda, Lectric Soda) to coarse salt size
  • Place a layer of the soda about 10 cm x 5cm x 2cm in the centre of a square of cloth (chux, mans handkerchief, tea towel depending on the size of the joint).
  • Make a pack by folding the edges of the material over the soda so that only one layer of cloth will lie between the soda and the skin.
  • Tape the pad in position over the swollen joint
  • Wrap in glad wrap
  • Cover it with a towel to absorb moisture
  • Keep it on overnight, or for min of three to four hours.
  • Use washing soda packs only on alternate days.
Do only three times.
Sensitive skin can blister.
Apply 'vaseline' to the skin before applying soda pack.
With very sensitive skin, try half a cup of washing soda in a bath and soak for half an hour.
Take care as washing soda can make the bath very slippery.
Comment: Washing soda can also be used to draw off fluid in other joints.
It is also useful for lymphoedema, haematomas and general arthritic conditions.
For fluid in elbows:
  • Soak in Epsom salts bath a few times a week
  • Paint the fluid sac with apple cider vinegar several times a day.
  • If the skin is sensitive, dilute the vinegar with water.
Fever:
  • 2 cups Epson Salts
  • 1/3 cup Apple cider Vinegar
  • In a bath for 20 mins
  • Medical referral is suggested when appropriate.
