How to Make an FB Channel

    • 1). Decide what kind of Facebook channel you will need. If you're creating a channel for an organization, business or group, or if you'd like to maintain a professional presence on Facebook that is separate from your personal one, you will need to create a personal account first. Each of these channels must have an administrator who is already on Facebook.

    • 2). Create a personal Facebook account, if you don't already have one. You may use this simply for connecting with family, friends and colleagues, and you may use your account to create pages or groups. Visit facebook.com and fill out your first name, last name, email, password, gender and birth date to sign up for a Facebook account.

    • 3). Decide if you need further channels; these may include a "page" or a "group." According to Facebook, organizations, businesses, brands and celebrities can communicate with people who like them using Pages; only official representatives can create and manage Pages. These are good options if you are a musician, author or other celebrity because you can maintain a presence on Facebook without giving out personal information. A page is set up within your profile, so you use your personal account login information to access and administrate the page. Anyone on Facebook can "like" your page.

    • 4). Create a page by clicking the orange flag icon, which should be on the left navigation bar of your home page (the page that contains your news feed). You will choose from six different categories for your page: local business, organization, brand, artist or public figure, entertainment or cause. Then, you will be able add and edit information, including title, website and contact information. Next, post photos and other information to your news feed. Lastly, invite others on Facebook to "like" your page to communicate with them directly.

    • 5). Start a group, if you would like a smaller context to communicate with others. These offer more privacy, as members must be approved or invited (based on your privacy settings). Groups are more useful for communicating with smaller groups of people you hopefully know more personally. You start a group like you start a page: you click on the "groups" icon on the left navigation bar of your home page (which looks like a little box with heads in it), edit your information and invite others to join the group. Only the people you invite may join the group.
