Psp Boat Show Southampton
PSP Southampton Boat Show
11th ' 20th September 2009.
In association with ITV Meridian, the Southampton Boat Show is aiming to break world records during the UK's biggest sailing event.
120,000 are expected to flock to the Boat Show this year. At Mayflower Park, the PSP Southampton Boat Show is a fantastic experience for everyone with a passion for boats. Whether you want to see what's new, discover a hobby or see the very best, and most up to date marine design and technology.
The PSP Southampton Boat show hosts Europe's largest purpose-built show marina, displaying an array of sailing craft. Climb aboard science ship Callista or take a look around the Jubilee Sailing Trust's Lord Nelson. Also, children can go boating for free with the RYA's OnBoard programme. You can even try a boat for free, or take in the MCA and RNLI's Search & Rescue demonstrations. And don't miss the Record Breaker Stage Show to help the PSP Southampton Boat Show break into the Guinness Book of Records.
This year, the aim is to break records with the help of show visitors. On the Record Breaker Stage Show in Solent Park, record breakers will bid to sail around the world in 20 minutes!
Take part in the daily Semaphore record breaking attempt. Used by NATO's land and sea forces, Semaphore was developed 200 years ago - way before mobile phones and the Internet! In its time, Semaphore was a revolutionary communication system - as popular as texting! Semaphore is a way of spelling out words by changing the position of a pair of hand-held flags indicating a letter of the alphabet. On the Record Breaker Stage Show you will be given your own flags to use so you can help to set a new Semaphore sending record.
The Green Blue is an initiative of the British Marine Federation and Royal Yachting Association. It's an environment programme working with boat users, sailing clubs, training centres and marine businesses to raise awareness of the impact of recreational boating on our coastal and inland waters.
At the Boat Show this year you can see sailing legends Dee Caffari and Mike Golding present prizes to the winners of the photography competition. The competition encourages sailors to capture moments that represent boating and the environment under three categories, The Good, The Bad and The Funny.
Those in the boating businesses can learn about making cost savings whilst improving their environmental performance at the Marine Toolkit workshops.
