    • 1). Check the power cord to ensure that it is plugged in and not damaged. Replace the cord if it is frayed or cracked. Go outside to the circuit breaker box and verify that the switch for the outlet is turned on. Reset the switch if it has been tripped and replace any blown fuses.

    • 2). Look for cracks or gaps in the door gasket. This lets the cool air from the freezer escape, which makes the motor run longer to keep the interior temperature low. Replace the door gasket if you find any defects.

    • 3). Make sure the freezer's weight is evenly balanced with a level. Raise or lower the corners by turning the adjustable feet on the bottom.

    • 4). Take the food out of the freezer and unplug it if you smell a bad odor coming from inside. Wipe down the interior walls with a combination of warm water and baking soda. Allow the freezer to dry before placing the food back inside and plugging it in.

    • 5). Listen carefully to the freezer if it is making a strange noise when it runs. If the noise is coming from the exterior of the freezer, look in the nearby area for walls, cabinets or furniture that may be vibrating. Move the freezer away from those items to eliminate the noise. If the noise sounds like it is coming from inside the freezer, open the door and listen for a few seconds. Replace the circulating fan if the noise gets louder when the door is open.
