Our body undergoes regular wear and tear. But the healing factor in our body prevents this wear and tear from causing any long term damage. However, when we get old, the body's response tends to slow down. In such cases, certain disorders occur leaving the body vulnerable. Spondylosis is a degenerative disorder that affects individuals normally in the old age. There are different types of this degenerative disorder which also requires different form of treatment, which is mentioned below.

Ā

Types of Spondylosis

Cervical Spondylosis

Cervical spondylosis normally occurs in the vertebrae in the neck. The spinal canal of the neck narrows causing the nerves in the spine to be compressed. While initially it may lead to pain, if it is not treated with the right procedure, it may cause dysfunction and even paralysis. Normally, the symptoms reflect spinal cord or even nerve damage. This often leads to change in posture, especially when walking. Even the area around the neck will be painful. In extreme cases, numbness and weakness will develop in any side of the body, which indicated the compression of nerves in the spinal cord.

Diagnosis and Treatment

Normally, an MRI scan will indicate if there is any change in the spinal canal. If there is an indication of narrowing, the degree of compression and distribution of nerve roots will indicate the extent of the disorder.Ā  Depending on the diagnosis, the appropriate treatment can be prescribed. Normally simple treatment like chiropractic treatment or even certain medication will aid in treating and healing this disorder. Even the combination of these treatments will help aid in the healing process.

Lumbar Spondylosis

With lumbar spondylosis in the lower back, the vertebrae move against the other. This results in overlapping. In such cases, the body weight bears down in this area causing pain. This pain can result in the lower back or even pain radiation down the lower limbs. The primary cause of this pain is normally a malformed vertebrae rubbing against each other abnormally. The pain, numbness and weakness in the lower limbs are normally caused by pressure on the nerves in the spinal cord.

Diagnosis and Treatment

A MRI scan will be needed to diagnose the spondylosis problem. However, the patient must be in a position where he has to stand up and bend forward while also leaning back. In this way, the clear extent of the disorder can be seen. Additionally, it also provides a clear image of the interactions of the vertebrae and its consecutive effects on the spinal canal and nerves. The treatment for this disorder is almost the same as cervical spondylosis. Depending on the extent of the disorder, a single form of treatment or even combined form will be prescribed
